Mara is originally from the beautiful Eastern Shore of Virginia. She began experimenting with her first camera at age 13 and has continued studying the medium ever since. Mara earned her BFA in Communication Arts and Design and double minor in Spanish/Latin American Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1999. Ah yes, the age of Film & Darkrooms!
After college, Mara continued to take photographs on her travels to the west coast from Alaska to Baja California, Europe, Central and South America.She previously worked as a photographer for the Eastern Shore Post, helped with endangered tern research in New York, taught ESL classes to Hispanic families in rural Virginia, and exhibited pottery, paintings, and photographs at galleries and art shows.
Mara is currently living near Richmond, VA working as a freelance photographer and private Spanish teacher. She spends her free time in nature exploring new places, making things out of clay, listening to live music, and chasing after her two amazing kids.
